“Anyone who knows me might tell you I can be a bit narcissistic…” -Sid Rosenberg
He’s not wrong. Sid is a narcissist and he wears it like a badge of honor. But don’t be fooled by his beefed-up biceps, deeply tanned body and his affinity for fashion. Sid Rosenberg is more complex than one might think and nearly impossible to sum up with just one word.
In his new book Sid-izens United, Sid engages his readers with memoir-like anecdotes and then he flips the switch, sharing his personal views on all things media, politics and society at large. Stylistically, Sid writes the way he talks. He is irreverent, outspoken and a little crass. He is also surprisingly sensitive and - dare I say it - relatable.
The Real Deal
From listening to Sid on his WABC Radio show Bernie and Sid, he is seemingly all about sports sports sports, New York City, gym, tan, and more sports. But, as it turns out, this fast-talking Brooklynite is also a reality TV junkie. Say what?! And I am not talking about shows like Ice Road Truckers. Oh no no. Not even close. Mr. Muscles is binge watching Bravo in his spare time. That’s right. Tough guy, Sid Rosenberg, is an unabashed fanboy of the The Real Housewives franchise. And his obsession doesn’t stop there. There is a whole chapter dedicated to his love of reality TV. I definitely sunk my teeth into this portion of the book. But don’t worry boys, he spends the next two chapters opining about your precious sports. (Eye roll).
The Sid-chology of Fitness
Sid touches on the mental component and benefits of working out regularly. He highlights 1) better sleep and 2) decreased anxiety. Technically, this is completely factual information. However, I am not certain Sid has mastered these benefits for himself. He once told me he only sleeps about 5 hours a night and I have witnessed him vigorously pacing the halls at work before going on-air. Once again, I can relate. We are both fitness loyalists. We both operate with high intensity. And we both spend the majority of each day/night very much awake. Note: this is not the same as being “woke.”
New York Sid-y
Like many of us who have voted Democrat our entire lives, Sid talks about facing the obvious truth: the far left has taken over and is ruining this country. A microcosm of this decline is evident across all major woke-run US cities like LA, San Fran, Chicago and, of course, New York. Sid decries New York’s post-Bloomberg demise and its undeniable destruction at the hands of Bill de Blasio; his soft-on-crime policies and anti-law enforcement rhetoric igniting New York's ongoing crime spike.
With this same viral woke-a-thon running through Washington, Sid has changed lanes and is now a Donald Trump convert. And even though I am not riding the Trump train with Sid, we are definitely in agreement that the current administration needs to go away in 2024.
Sid-crimination
Before getting to know Sid, I had pre-determined that we could never get along. I had crossed paths with him a handful of times at WABC, and you could just feel his overt masculinity emanating through the hall. He was everything I love to hate on. But after doing some on-air segments with him, and getting to know him off-air as well, I have upgraded him from being my arch nemesis to my best frenemy. You’re welcome, Sid.
I’m kidding. I’m Sidding? Ok, too far.
In all seriousness, there is much more to Sid Rosenberg than bench presses and baseball banter. I fully admit that I was judging the book by its tightly-fitted shirt cover. And now I am judging an actual book.
Sid-gestion
In my mostly unbiased opinion, I strongly encourage you to pick up a copy of Sid-izens United. I think you will agree that Sid Rosenberg makes it hard to disagree with him.
